Chair of Steering Committee statement

David Shallcross

Now well into its second decade, AOTULE is an organisation with very strong and active links between its members across the Asia Pacific region.  Student exchange programs held during the middle of the year and the annual Deans meeting and student symposium held around November are some of the events which characterise AOTULE activities.  The Deans meeting is a chance for the leadership at the region’s leading engineering schools to come together to exchange views and experiences.  The meeting is also a valuable opportunity to discuss common issues such as increasing the number of women in our programs, internationalisation of the engineering curriculum and the industry-academia interface.  While the Deans meeting is underway, staff responsible for student exchange at the various institutions meet to discuss how their institutional processes can be managed to smooth the way for student exchanges.  The Deans and Staff meetings provide opportunities to establish the personal links that are so important in collaboration efforts.

The role of the Steering Committee Chair is to support the work of the Executive Chair, by managing the AOTULE background processes.  The term is for two years, and the role is elected at every second annual Deans meeting.
